NY Attorney’s Alleged Escrow Theft ‘Stunning,’ Experts Say
Law360 (May 19, 2021, 3:03 p.m. EDT) – The recent allegations that New York real estate attorney Mitchell Kossoff stole more than $ 10 million from his clients’ escrow accounts point to an extreme example of some type of wrongdoing out that is not unheard of, although it is widely viewed as one of the worst crimes, experts told Law360.
Legal ethics lawyers have been impressed by the amount of theft alleged since reports in April that Kossoff of Manhattan-based Kossoff PLLC disappeared along with clients’ funds. Despite theft protection and almost certain professional and legal consequences, however, trust accounts are stolen.
