Attorney Michael Richardson of Hillard Martinez Gonzales LLP Sues CenterPoint Energy Inc. on behalf of 28 Apartment Complexes for Storm Damage

CHRISTI CORPUS, Texas, March 12, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Attorney Michael Richardson of Hilliard Martinez Gonzales LLP has sued CenterPoint Energy Inc. on behalf of 28 apartment complexes for damage suffered after the deadly winter storm and freezing temperatures February 12, 2021 by February 16, 2021. Due to widespread power outages, the complexes were severely destroyed, including burst pipes and water damage. As such, the plaintiffs’ apartment complexes, which house 8,456 residential units, have suffered significant damage.

Although it was publicly commented that CenterPoint would be involved in controlled “rolling outages”, the company allegedly failed to resolve the power outage in a reasonable and impartial manner. If the rotating failures had lasted “15 minutes to more than an hour,” as outlined in CenterPoint’s press release, the resulting damage could have been avoided, the complaint said.

Attorney Richardson notes, “The power challenges faced by severe cold weather are neither unforeseen nor unprecedented. CenterPoint’s failure to implement recommended practices to prevent recent blackouts demonstrates a critical lack of planning.”

CenterPoint opted for profit over “providing a safe and reliable power source,” according to the complaint.

The plaintiffs are over-demanding for damages $ 1,000,000.00.
