The pandemic continued to rage as the calendar turned to 2021 and revisions to California labor law continued.

The following are five major changes that specifically affect California labor law and its potential business impact. 1. Changes to the California Family Rights Act (CFRA)

SB 1383 extended California’s Family Rights Act (CFRA) to employers with five or more employees. 4. Extended right to vacation for victims of crime

AB 2992 amends California Labor Code, Section 230, to expand a worker’s right to vacation if they are the victim of a crime. The amended law prohibits employers from discriminating against, revenging or firing workers who take time off to seek help if they are victims of crime or violence that has sustained physical and / or mental harm.

The new amendment extends the right to abandon victims of crimes “that have caused physical or mental injury and the risk of physical harm”. The new law also protects a worker’s right to vacation if his immediate family member has been killed “as a direct result of a crime”.

5. Increased state minimum wage
