Attorney Paola Pearson Appointed to Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee of Elmiron Multi-District Litigation | News

PHILADELPHIA, January 28, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – Paola Pearson, Senior Associate at Philadelphia Personal Injury Law Firm Anapol Weiss was appointed by the judge Brian R. Martinotti of The United States District court for the district New Jersey to the Plaintiffs Executive Committee (“PEC”) of the recently formed Multi-District Litigation (MDL) for injured consumers over product liability claims against Elmiron, a popular drug used to treat interstitial cystitis and painful bladder syndrome. Paola, along with six other seasoned lawyers from across the country, forms the Executive Committee that directs litigation against the companies involved in the design, marketing, distribution and sales of Elmiron. Another fourteen experienced attorneys have been appointed to serve on the Plaintiffs Steering Committee (“PSC”) by Judge Martinotti.

“I am delighted to be part of this diverse committee committed to serving hundreds of women whose quality of life has been unnecessarily compromised by this dangerous bladder drug,” said Paola of her leadership role. “I have no doubt that the collective experience, skill and passion of the group will lead the litigation to a successful outcome while setting a new bar for MDL leadership groups better representing the changing legal profession.”

The plaintiffs’ committees for collective liability MDLs are selected based on individual and collective experience and skills, as well as the attorneys who steer the litigation and work effectively on behalf of all plaintiffs.

“”Paola Pearson not only speaks the conversation, but goes the way “, said the managing director and name partner of Anapol Weiss. Sol whiteof Paola’s appointment. “Paola has handled litigation over Mass Tort in six years at the bar, whether she was reviewing key document production, dismissing Company employees or medical witnesses, and drafting serious briefs. Her appointment to the Elmiron Executive Committee recognizes her dedication and advocacy.”

Multi-District Litigation (MDLs) arise when individual legal disputes for a common product, often allegedly defective drugs or medical devices, are brought together in a federal court in order to streamline the process of preparing the proceedings. Elmiron, also known by the chemical name of pentosan polysulfate sodium (PPS), has been prescribed for the treatment of interstitial cystitis or chronic bladder pain since 1996 in Justice for hundreds of Elmiron patients who have experienced significant vision loss. The Elmiron lawsuits allege that hundreds of Elmiron patients have suffered significant loss of vision and chronic and permanent damage to retinal cells due to pigmentary maculopathy. The lawsuit also alleges that injuries can range from impaired vision to blindness, which are irreversible and can progress even if patients stop taking the drug.
