Attorney Mick Mickelsen Obtains New Trial for Client
Dallas, TX, March 24th, 2021 / Broden Mickelsen /
Broden & Mickelsen, LLP, announced today that attorney Mick Mickelsen has received new lawsuit against a client who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his aunt. Mr. Mickelsen fought long and hard on behalf of the client and received a new negotiation for the client.
“This is a significant win for our client,” said Mickelsen, Texas criminal defense attorney with Broden & Mickelsen, LLP. “Despite the setbacks, we never stopped fighting. This persistence has paid off. We couldn’t be happier with the decision of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Texas, and we are confident that justice will prevail in this case. “
The Texas Court of Appeals granted the client a habeas corpus that enabled him to reschedule based on new scientific evidence. The client was initially charged in San Antonio for the murder of his aunt, for whom he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
After his conviction, the customer commissioned Mr. Mickelsen to deal with his appeal. On appeal, the San Antonio Court of Appeals overturned the conviction. However, the state of Texas appealed to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin, which overturned the decision of the San Antonio Court of Appeals.
Mr. Mickelsen submitted a habeas corpus to the Texas Court of Appeals on behalf of the client. After a protracted legal battle, the court rejected the first application for habeas corpus.
A few years later and after the discovery of new scientific knowledge, Mr. Mickelsen brought in a new habeas corpus application. After another lengthy legal battle, the Texas Court of Appeals granted the habeas corpus, which means the client’s case will be retried.
